Three peaks tribute to wife and mother

A TEAM of Portchester climbers are hoping to raise more than £5,000 for charity after scaling the three highest peaks in Britain to raise cash in memory of a tireless fund-raiser.

Cliff Johnson was joined by around 15 family and friends for the climb to honour his late wife Lesley.

The group tackled Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Snowdon in Wales in one week to boost funds of several good causes.

Mrs Johnson died in January of last year, just hours after her 42nd birthday, following a long fight against three brain tumours.

But her final wish was for husband Cliff to climb Ben Nevis and lay flowers on what would have been their wedding anniversary.

The pair had already climbed the peak twice to raise money to combat cystic fibrosis, the condition from which their teenage son Daniel suffered.

Mr Johnson carried out the wish joined by Daniel, daughter Kirsty and many more family and friends.

And the climb was such a success the group decided to make the pilgrimage an annual event to raise cash on behalf of the Lesley Johnson Rainbow Trust so-called because of the rainbow which appeared as the group descended Ben Nevis.

One of the climbers, Paul Jackson, said: 'Last year was such a special event we wanted to go one better this time by doing all three peaks.'
