A DRUGGED-up thug who attacked his partner in front of their children has been ordered to get help for his problems.
Tiago Da-Silva-Oliveira attacked his girlfriend Silvia Goncalves at their home in Maxstoke Close, Southsea.
The 29-year-old was high on cocaine and lost his temper after a row over their pet dog, Portsmouth magistrates’ heard.
Their children, an eight-year-old girl and a three-year-old son, cried as Da-Silva-Oliveira slapped her round the face and pushed her over, cutting her lip.
The unemployed plasterer was arrested after his victim fled the house to a neighbour’s where they called the police.
In a statement Ms Goncalves, who has since left him, told the court: ‘He takes drugs and when he can’t get hold of them he takes it out on me.
‘He has told me that if I ever made a complaint he would kill me.
‘When he gets angry and is on drugs he is capable of doing anything to me. I have had enough now and I am so scared of him.’
The court heard Da-Silva-Oliveira, now of Copnor Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, has previous convictions for assaulting Ms Goncalves and once broke her nose.
Gaylene Coles, defending, said: ‘He doesn’t wish to distance himself from what happened on that day, he takes full responsibility.
‘He does see himself as a monster in this scenario where he has behaved appallingly in front of the children.
‘He agrees that he does need help with addressing his victim awareness and anger issues as well as his issues with drugs. He doesn’t want this to happen again.’
Chairwoman of the bench Lesley Vincent said: ‘We have listened with a great deal of concern to what has been outlined to us because domestic violence is a very serious crime to commit.
‘We feel you have reached the custody threshold because it’s the same victim, drugs were involved, children were present and it’s in a domestic setting.’
But she said the court would suspend the prison sentence.
Da-Silva-Oliveira was given a four month prison sentence suspended for two years.
He will have two years of supervision from the probation service and must attend a domestic abuse programme. He must pay £165 in costs.
