Time for elections in the youth parliament

FOR those who want their voice to be heard, it’s time for the UK Youth Parliament elections in Portsmouth.

Any young person aged 11 to 18 who lives in or is educated in the city is eligible to nominate themselves for the 2013 election.

Potential candidates have until January, 14, 2013 to register, and the election will be held in February.

The winning candidate will have the chance to take part in the UK Youth Parliament national campaign, which is based on a Curriculum for Life.

Kay Sutherland, current elected member for Portsmouth, said: ‘This year has been amazing, it has consisted of countless interesting meetings and I have met so many inspirational people.

‘My favourite part was going to the House of Commons and being the first young person from Portsmouth to speak on television.

‘I have loved representing the young people in Portsmouth and would jump at the chance to do it again.’
