Time Team star Phil to open Butser visitor centre

THE star of Channel 4’s Time Team, archaeologist Phil Harding, will unveil the new visitor centre at Butser Ancient Farm.

More than £300,000 has been raised to create a fitting gateway to the site, which is the only place in Western Europe to present Iron Age Houses and a Roman Villa alongside prehistoric livestock, crops and fences to depict life in Britain 2,000 years ago.

The centre is named after Janus, the Roman god of gateways.

The fully-accessible building is now the hub of the farm, which is in Chalton, near Waterlooville.

Butser’s director Maureen Page said: ‘We are so grateful to all our funders. Without their help this would not have been possible.’

The opening ceremony is at 2pm and is for invited guests only.
