A MAN who repeatedly called 999 despite being given an Asbo banning him from doing so, unless it’s a genuine emergency, has narrowly avoided jail.
Jason Garrad, admitted calling the police four times from his home in Hewett Close, Titchfield, on December 16 last year, and on January 3, 17 and 19 this year.
Garrad was given a five-year order which prevented him from calling the emergency services last July after courts heard how he would bombard the police with calls for a chat and to tell them about his noisy hamster.
The bench at Fareham Magistrates’ Court gave Garrad a four-week sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay £20 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
The 41-year-old had also breached a community order, given to him last September for calling the police twice in one day, against the conditions of his Asbo.
Garrad, has previously made calls of up to half-an-hour, tying up staff at Hampshire Constabulary’s enquiries centre.
Many of the calls related to problems with his then neighbour over noise and worries that he would be arrested.
