Train passengers face delays after person hit on Hampshire route

COMMUTERS are facing delays after a person was hit by a train between Liss and Petersfield.

Trains between Woking and Guildford and Portsmouth are being diverted via Basingstoke and Eastleigh.

Journeys are expected to be extended by up to 40 minutes.

Buses are being arranged to run between Haslemere and Havant for customers at Liphook, Liss, Petersfield and Rowlands Castle.

There is no estimate for when these buses will be available.

Journeys involving shuttle trains and buses between London Waterloo and Havant via Liss may be extended by up to 120 minutes.

A spokeswoman for South West Trains said: ‘Our services are being disrupted this evening as result of a person being hit by a train between Liss and Petersfield. Our immediate thoughts are with the family of the person who has died.

‘The incident, which involved the 3.15pm South West Trains service from London Waterloo to Portsmouth, occurred at around 4.40pm on the track near Sheet level crossing.

‘As a result of the incident, which has been declared non-suspicious by police, no trains are currently able to run between Havant and Haslemere.’

Havant railway station was closed and evacuated due to a police incident, but it has since reopened.
