Travel card looks to ensure reduced fares

A COUNCIL and youth parliament are working together to develop a card to ensure reduced bus fares for young people.

Portsmouth City Council and Portsmouth Youth Parliament are working to develop the new card which will make sure young people receive the reduced bus fares to which they are entitled.

The card would potentially be available to secondary school pupils and 17 to 19-year-olds.

Plans for the card also include seeking a range of shops and businesses in the area to sign up and offer discounts to cardholders, similar to an NUS card.

Portsmouth Youth Parliament’s Peter Marcus said: ‘We’ve had a lot of young people complain they don’t have the necessary ID to get half-fares on buses and we’re looking for a way to solve this problem and give extra benefits too.’

The new scheme is expected to launch at the start of the new school term.

Anyone with more ideas should contact Portsmouth Youth Parliament on 07898 212352.
