THE bus passenger building at Portsmouth’s park and ride has been closed while work is done to remove travellers.

Police were called after 25 people with dogs arrived in nine vehicles at the Tipner site off the M275 last night.

The council has drafted in extra security guards since their arrival to keep an eye on the situation.

Buses are still running on schedule, but some car parking spaces are not in use and the waiting facility has been shut ‘until further notice.’

Police say there have been no reports of anti-social behaviour so far.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘We were called out at 8.30pm last night. No damage has been done to the site. The city council is the lead agency on it.

‘It is instigating its powers this morning.

‘There have been no issues of anti-social behaviour.’
