WORK is being done to remove the top of a large tree which collapsed on a Portsmouth street this morning, narrowly missing a woman with a pushchair.

Residents have been sawing off chunks of the tree which came down on Havant Road, Farlington, at around 11.30am.

Traffic has been blocked and people at the scene have been getting in touch with relevant authorities to help tackle the situation.

Simon Green, owner of Pearl of the Orient, was approaching Havant Road from Gillman Road when he saw the incident, and explained that the tree narrowly missed a woman with a pushchair who was walking on the opposite side of Havant Road.

‘I’m shocked, it’s a very big tree,’ said Mr Green.

‘It’s three times as tall as a normal house.’

He added that around eight residents were working to clear the debris.
