Tributes made to Havant man found dead in street

Friends have told how a 'larger than life' plumber was laughing and joking just minutes before his death.

Andy Mould, 60, was enjoying a pint and was in high spirits at The Robin Hood pub in Havant before he left for home.

But his body was later discovered in an alleyway at Market Parade.

Following a forensic examination of the area, detectives say they are still keeping an open mind about how he came to meet his death.

Punters at The Robin Hood, in Homewell, were stunned to hear the news.

Landlord Pete Smith said Mr Mould had enjoyed five or six pints of his favourite HSB before leaving at about 10.45pm on Monday.

His body was found by a shopworker at about midnight, as reported in The News yesterday.

Mr Smith said: 'He was fine. He was himself. He was chatting with an old mate. He had quite a bit to drink, but it was not unusual for him.

'I know he will be missed here. A lot of people will be very upset.'

Devastated friends said Mr Mould's death would be a great loss to Havant, where he was a well-known character.

Friend Simon Bushnell, 44, who lived at the same maisonette as Mr Mould in Market Parade, said: 'He's certainly part of the fixtures and fittings in Havant.

'He was a larger than life personality.'

Mr Mould, who was divorced, was an avid Monty Python fan and was often the life and soul of the party at the pub.

Sue Yarranton, deputy manager at The Robin Hood, said: 'He was just full of fun.

'His favourite song was Dance The Night Away by The Mavericks. When we had a party he was always dancing to it.'

Mr Mould, who has children, once lived in Cowplain and was a regular at The Spotted Cow pub in London Road.

He was a keen Formula 1 and rugby fan.

Friend Jackie Cranna, 53, of Rectory Road, Langstone, said: 'He was just very well-liked.

'It's so sad to hear as he was such a nice fella.'

SEARCH BEHIND CORDON

Mr Mould's body was discovered by a shopworker late on Monday night.

The area was cordoned off and a tent placed over his body.

About 20 officers from CID, uniformed staff and forensics worked throughout the night, checking a nearby car park for evidence and conducting fingertip searches in Market Parade and Havant Park.

The cordon was re-opened just after 7am yesterday before the rush-hour as the location is next to Havant railway station.
