Tropical haven with echoes of Portsmouth
First it was a road in America, then a coffee shop in Egypt.
Now a little bit of Pompey has sprung up out east – in Thailand.
Portsmouth fan Adam Fryatt came across The P.F.C. Bar on the tropical island of Koh Samui while travelling with friends Lucy Johnson and Ben Couch.
After seeing our story about the Pompey coffee shop in Luxor, Egypt, he got in touch.
The 28-year-old, of Boulton Road, Southsea, said: 'We were strolling through the hectic cluster of small bars in town and spotted a distant sign with The P.F.C. plastered across it.
'We assumed it was just a coincidence but as we passed we noticed all the Pompey memorabilia covering the walls and bar.'
Adam, who was travelling with his girlfriend Cheryl went in for a few drinks and discovered it is owned by a man known as 'Pompey Nick'.
He is 46-year-old Nick May who has been running the shrine to his home-town club for four years and has lost count of the number of Pompey fans who have propped up his bar.
He was born in St Mary's Hospital, Milton, and grew up on Hayling Island.
He has been a huge Pompey fan all his life.
Nick, who is married to Poon who helps run the bar, said: 'We have about 20 regular Pompey fans and I've even managed to convert a couple of Thais away from Man Utd and Liverpool.
'The most we've ever had in here was 46 back in January and it wasn't even for a Pompey game, but the Liverpool v Havant and Waterlooville cup tie.'
Nick was out playing pool on the night the friends arrived at his bar, but they got to meet Poon.
Adam said: 'She made us feel really welcome the second she found out we were from Pompey and a complimentary round of drinks was soon on the table.
'We had been away for about seven months so it was great, like a little piece of home. We spent the evening in there and loved it.'
