Violence flared at Wickham Horse Fair today.
Police had to break up a fight between two men after people ran into the cordoned-off horse track in the High Street at around midday.
Officers led the men away as order was restored.
One witness said the incident took place at the bottom of the horse run at the annual event.
A stallholder, who asked not to be named, said: ‘We saw a fella bleeding and we heard he got hit in the back of the head with a cricket bat.
‘You put a group of men drinking in a tent all day and you know there’s going to be something.’
Attendance at the annual fair is down on previous years due to bad weather.
Last year, the fair was marred by a mass fight, which led to the convictions of six people.
