Trouble in Southampton ahead of the Pompey clash
Trouble flared in Southampton just a few minutes walk from St Mary's Stadium as fans clashed on the way to the game.
Traffic was brought to a standstill in at New Road, Southampton, as officers rushed to the scene with sirens blaring at about 11.25am.
Mounted police on horseback were also drafted in from the nearby Kingsland Market area.
And dozens of officers fought to keep Pompey and Saints fans segregated on their way to the game.
Police used dogs and weilded batons as hundreds of fans hurled abuse and threatened each other.
Fans were chased across Andrews Park by police towards the football ground.
Anyone who was not on their way to the game were ordered to leave the area.
