Two men murdered in Gosport
Two men have been murdered in Gosport.
Hampshire Police confirmed that officers found one man seriously injured with stab wounds at 6.50 this morning in Alma Street, Gosport.
He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, where medical staff could not resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead.
Police officers also found another man, at a nearby home, who had also been stabbed to death.
One man was arrested at the scene, with two others arrested later on.
All three have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Superintendent Phil Winchester, who is investigating the incident said: 'This is a very unusual incident for Gosport and is being handled by the Serious Crimes Team.
'Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information, should contact us at Fratton Police Station, quoting Operation Principal, on 0845 0454545, or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.'
A blood-soaked towel was seen lying on the ground near Alma Road this morning.
A suspect is said to have fled from the scene and knocked on a back door of a house in Whitworth Road, half a mile away.
A woman opened it and he forced his way through the house.
When he came out she apparently shouted:'What do you think you're doing?'
He ran across Whitworth Road and dived in between a fence and some bushes in Whitworth Close.
Eye-witnesses say cash was falling out of his pockets as he ran.
An employee at Tyre Stocks Ltd, right next to where he was hiding, spotted him and alerted a passing policeman on a motorbike.
The suspect then tried to jump over the fence but was rugby tackled by the policeman and they crashed through the fence together.
Police have confirmed that they were called out to a stabbing and that three men have been arrested and are in custody.
Scott Bowler, 21, who was staying with his daughter in Whitworth Road, said: 'He came running through someone's house. He came out the front door.
'When he was running out of the house he had wads of cash falling out of his pocket and I saw police picking them up and putting them in evidence bags.'
Beryl Cantle, 66, from Whitworth Road, said: 'The police turned up and he ran from the scene. Apparently he ran over back gardens and knocked on someone's door and asked if he could be let through their house.
'There were dozens of police, I don't know how many but a couple of them were armed.'
Louise Sillence, 48, a hairdresser, from Welch Road, was visiting a customer a few doors down from the incident.
She said: 'All I know is that there was a man on the floor just outside surrounded by police.
'I came out just as it was going on and there must have been about 10 police.'
Three men - a 27-year-old, from Gosport, and a 19 and 21-year-old, both from London - have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Two of the men were arrested near to the scene, while the third was detained near Whitworth Road. All were arrested within an hour.
