Union members stage Budget Day protest in Portsmouth

Union members hold a Budget Day demonstration in Portsmouth.

Union members have been making their voices heard at a protest in Portsmouth’s Guildhall Square.

To coincide with Budget Day, members of the Portsmouth Trades Council and Portsmouth Against the Cuts Together were in the city protesting about issues with pay, working conditions and pensions.

Some workers went on strike today and banners and placards were on show in the official dispute.

Patrick Smyth, branch chairman of the local Public and Commercial Services Union, which represents employees of HM Revenue and Customs, said: ‘It’s been very good. There has definitely been a reduction in services and a reduction in people trying to use the contact centres.’
