University has strengthened its links with Malaysia

Representatives from the Malaysian Ministry of Education visited the University of Portsmouth to meet students training to teach English in Malaysian secondary schools.

The School of Languages and Area Studies' new bachelor's degree course, teaching English as a second language, is being taught to 45 Malaysian students who will study in Portsmouth for three years.

Dean of Humanities Dave Russell said: 'The (link) is part of a huge project involving four other UK universities and institutions in New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia. It is important for the school to maintain and build these cross-cultural links so I am thrilled this joint venture with Malaysia is going from strength to strength.''
