Vampires and tales from the Orient dazzle crowds
Teenagers pulled out all the stops to ensure a thrilling climax on the final night of Rock Challenge.
The dance show had everything - with influences spanning the globe from Japan to Transylvania, and to Southsea beach.
First place went to Bridgemary Community Sports College, Gosport, who stole the show at the Guildhall with their delightful take on the novel and film Memoirs of a Geisha.
Their dramatic performance told the story of Sayuri, a young Japanese girl who is kidnapped and sold on as a servant.
She then goes on to fulfil her dream of becoming the most famous Geisha, a traditional female entertainer performing classical Japanese music and dance.
Stuart McGregor, development manager at the Be Your Best Foundation, which organises the nationwide events, said: 'As it was the last show of a spectacular week a lot of expectation was built and the talent on display was absolutely incredible.
'Bridgemary school were the personification of talent and enthusiasm and truly deserved their win.
'It was a perfect way for us to finish off our run of shows in Portsmouth for 2010.'
Miltoncross School, Portsmouth, picked up two awards for their thought-provoking performance Justin Time, which told the story of a boy who travels through time while flying his kite on Southsea beach.
Staunton Community Sports College, Havant, picked up fifth place for their nightmarish tale A Vampire Weekend.
Bridgemary are the sixth local winners and will now compete for a place in the grand final at the Southern regional final on June 10.
The national final is at the Guildhall on June 12.
