Walkers let poles take the strain
WALKERS have been given a taste of Nordic walking as physiotherapists held a workshop along the seafront on the new European craze.
After leaving DDB's Clinic in High Street, Lee-on-the-Solent, the walkers spent two hours burning calories and giving their bodies a cardiovascular work-out.
Described as cross-country skiing without the skis – or snow – Nordic walking is a low-stress, total body work-out.
The poles reduce the impact on the hips, knees and feet as well as helping to provide stability to walkers who have balance problems.
Didi Berry, owner of DDB's Clinic, said: 'It was really good.
'The people that did it were amazed how much they enjoyed it. People who usually have sore knees after walking said they didn't feel a thing on Saturday.'
Anyone interested in another Nordic walking workshop should contact Didi Berry at DDB Clinic on (023) 9255 2266.
