Week of the centurions at Fishbourne Roman Palace

A museum is going military to teach children army life nearly 2,000 years ago.

Fishbourne Roman Palace, near Chichester, has organised a Roman Army Week from October 26 to 30.

Visitors will be able to get an army 'tattoo', try their hand with spear practice and learn how to write their name in Latin.

The events are geared at giving visitors the authentic Roman army experience, with archery, sword practice and a marching drill on offer.

Museum director Christine Medlock said: 'The activities are always popular and the young "recruits" enjoy trying to earn a day's pay. It's something for all the family and is both educational and fun at the same time.'

The activities will take place from 10am to 4pm and children must be accompanied by an adult.
