PART of a busy road was closed for several hours after a woman was hit by a car.

The accident happened just after 7pm last night as the woman – who is in her mid-30s – crossed London Road, in Hilsea, outside the Green Posts pub.

A man who lives nearby ran to help.

Jack Gibbons, 22, said: ‘I heard a loud bang and looked outside and saw the lady on the floor. I’ve got first-aid training so I ran out with lots of towels to see what I could do. She seemed to be in a bad way.’

Another man, who did not want to be named, drove the victim’s family to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, to be with her. He said: ‘It was awful, they were absolutely devastated. I’m in shock.’

Police say the woman’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The driver of car involved – a Volkswagen Polo – was not injured.

No arrests were made.
