Woman jailed after £451,000 fraud

An office worker who stole tens of thousands of pounds from her employer has been jailed for 21 months.

Amanda Carrington obtained 451,000 through theft and fraud between 2004 and 2009.

About 60,000 of that was money she took from employer Dorelbury Ltd, a Fareham-based building contractor.

Another 26,000 was money the 48-year-old got by overcharging one of the company's customers, Hampshire Scientific Services.

She was also given a 337,000 mortgage for her property in Outlands Lane, Curdrige, by lying to the building society about her income.

She was caught after a junior employee noticed a discrepancy in the wages.

Carrington pleaded guilty to two counts of theft, three of obtaining money transfers by deception, two of fraud by abuse of position and one of fraud by false representation.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard how she had worked for the company for 19 years and had been considered 'a loyal and hard-working employee'.

Jailing her Judge Ian Pearson said: 'This was a sustained fraud, it was a gross breach of trust, it involved not just your employer but another company as well suffered significant financial loss and also there was fraud on a bank.

'This was systematic dishonesty which continued for a period of five years.'
