Young man remains critical in hospital
A YOUNG man from Purbrook is fighting for his life after a serious crash in which a car smashed into a lamp post.
The 20-year-old remains in a critical condition at Southampton General Hospital after he suffered extensive head injuries.
As reported yesterday, he was the passenger in a black Hyundai Coupe which careered off the carriageway in Hulbert Road, Waterlooville.
The car was travelling from Waterlooville towards the A3 when it mounted the central reservation and collided with a street light.
The vehicle then continued to travel across the opposite carriageway before coming to rest on a grass verge.
The driver, a 30-year-old Purbrook man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment.
The passenger was flown by air ambulance to Southampton.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang as the car lost control.
Police are appealing for witnesses as an investigation takes place into the accident, which happened at about 2.35pm on Sunday.
A police spokeswoman said: ‘We are conducting a full investigation and are appealing for witnesses to the collision to make contact.’
Contact Sergeant Darren Orde on 101, quoting Operation Jarvis.
