THE region’s activity clubs for children and young people with disabilities are in line for a share of a cash pot totalling £2.9m.
Hampshire County Council is set to approve grants to a variety of groups that provide short breaks, activities and services for children with disabilities.
Cllr Roy Perry, the council’s executive lead member for children’s services, approved the grants to help organisations to develop and continue to provide a wide range of services to meet the needs of families who benefit from them.
AACT Climbing in Hayling Island will be awarded £16.432.
Organisations in the Havant and Waterlooville area will receive a total of £193,025.
They include Sir George Staunton Country Park, Riverside Community Special School, Face It, Horizon Leisure Trust, Enable Ability, The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, and KIDS.
The Fareham and Gosport area is set for grants totalling £267,050.
Groups that will benefit from the cash boost include Ashcroft Arts Centre, KIDS, Y Services for Young People, Let Us Play Scheme, and Woodpeckers Childcare.
Cllr Perry said: ‘I want all children in Hampshire to be able to participate as fully as possible in a range of recreational and developmental experiences.
‘I know how important these services are to families who have children with disabilities and additional needs.
‘The activities schemes across the county ensure that their children have a range of recreational activities to take part in while at the same time provide parents with a welcome break.’
Grants were also approved for the Bridging Worker Scheme, the Rose Road Association and to Parent Voice.
Councillors will decide to approve the grants at a 2013/14 budget meeting on February 21.
Cllr Perry added: ‘I am pleased to approve this funding subject to council approval of the budget.’
