PEOPLE are being urged to watch out for rogue traders, who may try to profit from the damage caused by the recent storm.

Hampshire County Council’s trading standards department has issued
the warning, particularly to older and vulnerable residents.

If people find their property is damaged, the advice from trading standards is to speak to their insurance companies before hiring anyone to carry out repair work.

The team also advises never to agree to work after a cold call or a leaflet drop.

Householders should obtain at least three written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are either members of the council’s Trading Standards Buy With Confidence Scheme, or
a recognised trade
association.

To find out more about the scheme, contact the council.
