THE new Lord Mayor of Portsmouth will be meeting representatives of one her designated charities today.

Councillor Lynne Stagg was appointed Lord Mayor on Monday and as one of her first duties will be meeting people from Brain Tumour Research.

The charity, located at the University of Portsmouth, will be receiving money raised my the mayor.

She said: ‘More children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer yet brain tumours remain the most underfunded area of research. After losing my brother and other family members I wanted to highlight this great cause in their memory. We have a world-class brain tumour research centre here on our doorstep, which I am immensely proud of.’

The mayor will be meeting Professor Geoff Pilkington, lead researcher, and families affected by brain tumours.
