GAY and lesbian group Portsmouth Pride has won £10,000 lottery money to pay for a festival on Southsea Common and a parade in Commercial Road.

The Big Lottery Fund has granted the money for the events on June 20.

Portsmouth Pride chairman David Lee-Bastable said: ‘This is fantastic news. The costs of putting on a safe event like this are challenging, but we have been overwhelmed by the support shown by local businesses and organisations, and now this generous grant from the lottery.’

The festival will feature bands performing on stage and community stands.
