A PILOT and her student had a lucky escape when the glider that they were flying was forced to land on a field.
Police were called to Salterns open space at 10.59am today after the glider landed on the grass. It was supposed to land at Daedalus airfield.
There were no injuries and the glider wasn’t damaged.
Police contacted the Air Traffic Investigation Branch but they declined carrying out an investigation.
Richard Berridge, 68, from Westgate in Stubbington saw the glider on the grass.
‘I didn’t see it actually land but I walked along afterwards. It was just one of those things. It happens rarely but it does happen.
‘Years ago I saw it happen on the beach when it couldn’t make it back to the airfield.’
The Portsmouth Naval Gliding Association were called to remove the glider.
