HMS VICTORY is closed to visitors for the week due to essential maintenance.
The work is part of improvements that have been going on since July last year.
Dockyard head of communications Jacquie Shaw said: ‘This is an essential part of the conservation work. It is a quiet time, so there isn’t much inconvenience.’
The ship had a survey six months ago to establish the work which was needed and how to preserve it for the future.
Victory has been out of the sea for around 90 years which has caused structural problems including water leaking between the gaps in the deck planks.
The work already completed on the world’s oldest commissioned warship includes the removal of the three masts, and rigging.
Victory will reopen on Monday.
