PREPARATIONS are being made for one of the area’s biggest free fireworks displays.

Havant Borough Council is holding its annual event at Stockheath Common, Leigh Park, on Tuesday November 5.

Mayor of Havant, Councillor Paul Buckley, will light the giant bonfire at 7.30pm. The fireworks start at 7.45pm.

There will also be children’s rides and side stalls from 5pm until 8.30pm. Refreshments, including hot dogs and candy floss, will be on sale.

Councillor David Collins, who is responsible for community safety, said: ‘This annual event is organised to ensure a safe and controlled spectacular display for residents with around 5,000 people attending each year.’

Stockheath Lane and Alsford Road will be closed to traffic from 4pm to enable the rides and stalls to be set up on Stockheath Lane. Riders Lane will be closed from 5pm. Parking will not be permitted.

Visitors arriving by car should use the council car parks at Greywell, which are a five-minute walk from Stockheath Common and will be free on that evening from 5pm.
