A MAN died when the 4x4 he was driving in slammed into a tree earlier this morning.

The crash took place shortly after 7.30am this morning in Hollywater Road, Passfield.

Surrey Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services were in attendance alongside South Central Ambulance Service.

However, a spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Sadly the passenger, a 29-year-old man from Romania was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘The driver, a 22-year-old man from Poland was transported to Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guilford non-life threatening injuries.’

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident.

It took place in Hollywater Road near the junction of Lynchborough Road.

The 4x4 type vehicle was travelling east on Hollywater Road heading towards the B3004 at the time of the crash.

Senior investigating pfficer Sergeant Gabe Snuggs said: ‘We are particularly looking to speak with the driver of a black car that we believe was travelling in the opposite direction towards Liphook Road at around the time the collision occurred.

‘Were you travelling west on the Hollywater road this morning at around 7.25am? Do you drive a black car? Please call 101 and quote reference 44150386099.’
