A MAN was found dead on a luxury motorboat after a mayday alert in the Solent.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said one person was flown to St Mary’s Hospital at Newport by the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent, and two others had been rescued from the sea by a passing yacht in the drama off Cowes yesterday afternoon.

The MCA said assistance was also given at the scene by the RNLI lifeboat based at Cowes, Gosport Independent Lifeboat, the South West Ambulance Service and Hampshire Constabulary.

Hampshire Police said the man’s next of kin had been informed and that there were no suspicious circumstances.
