AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a fire at a block of flats.

A man was rescued by firefighters after the blaze broke out in a second floor lounge.

Four fire engines went to Tweed Court, at the corner of Dunsbury Way and Purbrook Way, Leigh Park, at about 5.20pm after neighbours raised the alarm.

Police cars blocked off Purbrook Way and diverted traffic while firefighters dealt with the fire.

The man was rescued from the fire and put on to a stretcher before being taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Emergency services left the scene at about 6.45pm. PC Rob Kilgallon, from Waterlooville police, said: ‘We are trying to find out whether it was accidental or whether there’s another issue that’s caused the fire.’
