A gang of youths viciously attacked a man who asked them to stop throwing snowballs.

The 31-year-old victim suffered a fractured skull and facial injuries after being set upon in Purbrook Chase Precinct in Crookhorn Lane, Waterlooville.

The teenagers knocked him to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched him after he asked them to stop hurling snowballs at the window of a flat in the precinct.

The victim was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment following the attack between 5.30pm and 6pm on Sunday.

Detective Constable Emma Cooke said: 'This was a vicious attack which left the victim with two fractures to his skull.

'At this stage we believe three youths were responsible for the assault, all three of them were white and aged between 15 and 18.

'This incident happened between 5.30pm and 6pm in the middle of the precinct so I am sure there are many people who would have witnessed it.

'There were a lot of customers coming in and out of the Co-op at the time who may have seen a group of youths hanging around the precinct prior to the assault.

'We would particularly like to speak to a man who was in the Co-op at the time of the incident. He left the shop as the assault was taking place and got into a 4x4 vehicle. He is a crucial witness and could have vital information.'
