Today he tested the vessel which is a hollowed out pumpkin with an engine attached.

It was grown by a farmer in Lancashire.

Dmitri said: ‘I am very excited but nervous about the venture.

‘Going out today made me feel a bit better so I am looking forward to it.

‘I have never done anything like this before and the test-run yesterday was the first time I have been inside it.’

Dmitri hopes to break the world record for the fastest 100m paddled in a pumpkin at a trial which will take place tomorrow.
