STAFF members put their best foot forward as they completed a marathon on a treadmill in the pharmacy store they work in.

The team of eight who work together in Rowlands Pharmacy, on Eastney Road, Southsea, took it in turns to complete 26.2 miles on the running machine.

They alternated in 30 minute shifts to clock up the distance as part of a fundraising day in the shop in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.

Sales assistant Angela Brand organised the event to support her husband, Colin, who is running the London Marathon for the charity.

He needs to raise £2,000 for the organisation to run the race, and the £400 generated from Angela and her colleagues’ efforts is a welcome boost.

Angela, 32, of Gritanwood Road, Eastney, said: ‘I wanted to organise something to help Colin get the money he needs to run the race and everyone in the store got behind me 100 per cent.

‘They’ve all put loads of effort into it and it’s brought us closer together as a team because we’ve all been working towards one common goal.

‘It was really fun, we all enjoyed it a lot.’

As well as the treadmill challenge, the staff members worked together to arrange a raffle with many prizes, a children’s colouring in competition and a memory tree for people to post their messages and memories.

Angela added: ‘Colin’s mum had breast cancer not so long ago. She’s fine now and that’s partly because of the tremendous amount of support she got from MacMillan.

‘It was an emotional time for the whole family, and seeing someone go through that was very hard.

‘Now that she’s made it through the other side we want to do all we can to help the charity so others can benefit.’
