COMMANDOS on board a Portsmouth-based warship have carried out assaults on insurgents and evacuated civilians in the latest part of a naval exercise.

Carried out in the waters around the coastal city of Vlore, Albania. The exercise is the latest part of the navy’s Cougar 13 mission.

Major General Ed Davis, the Commandant General Royal Marines and Commander UK Amphibious Forces, said: ‘As the commander of Britain’s Royal Marines, I could not be more grateful to the government of Albania and the Albanian armed forces for their vision, flexibility, and generosity in allowing us to train in Albania.

‘We could not have been better supported, nor made to feel more welcome.’

As the exercise drew to a close, the carrier hosted the President of Albania, Bujar Nishani, on board.

He reviewed the ship’s ceremonial guard, watched a fly past, and talked with the ship’s boarding party.
