MORE than 6,000 people flocked to see the star of TV’s The Great British Bake Off at a garden show.

West Dean’s garden event Grow! Cook! Eat! took place at the weekend and there were gardening and cooking demonstrations alongside music from talented folk musicians.

Bake Off queen Mary Berry prepared Christmas recipes from her latest collection – including mouth-watering Watercroft Chicken and Christmas Tarte Amadine.

Audience members queued patiently at the West Sussex event to have copies of Mary’s books signed by the star herself.

Great British Bake Off 2012 finalist Brendan Lynch made cinnamon and orange kringle bread, and gave lots of tips on how to get the best results cooking with yeast.

Former River Cottage head chef Mark Lloyd cooked West Dean lamb to make a lamb wellington with greens, and a rosemary and redcurrant sauce, and a luxurious chocolate fondant.

Audience members passed around the mixing bowl to taste.

The star act in the music tent was Eddi Reader, former front singer with the band Fairground Attraction.
