A BRANCH of the RNLI has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers to ensure it does not go under.
The Bishop’s Waltham branch has been going for over 20 years and at its helm is chairman Margo Berry.
Mrs Berry is retiring later this year and she fears the branch will fold unless a reliable group of volunteers can be found, including two to step up — one to become chairman and the other to become secretary.
Mrs Berry said the group raises money for the RNLI by selling souvenirs and fundraising at various events throughout the year and a few years ago the group even raised enough money to buy the RNLI a full set of lifejackets.
Mrs Berry, 77, said: ‘I really cannot carry it any longer.
‘Nobody has come forward to date so we will be closing the branch at the next committee meeting if we cannot find anyone. I have not been well and my health is suffering. My consultant said “stop lady, you have got to get off” so I need to step down.’
The volunteers need to be found by the next committee meeting on March 19. To find out more call 01329 833114.
