MANY people try to switch off after a long day at work.
But life never stops for publican Gillian Drinkwater.
She puts in as many hours as she can at The Tangier because she wants to turn it back into a thriving pub.
She is also manager of Cue Ball Snooker Club in Goldsmith Avenue, Southsea.
Though working at The Tangier is Mrs Drinkwater’s first experience in the pub trade, she has been in charge of the snooker club for three years.
‘The first couple of months at The Tangier were all about settling in,’ she said.
‘There were a few problems at the start with the cellar but that has all been sorted.
‘It has been a challenge but enjoyable at the same time.
‘The locals are a fantastic bunch.
‘I’m listening to them all the time and I’m keen to start running a guest ale in the near future.
‘If its successful then I’ll look into introducing more real ales.’
The pub already has a Saturday league football team - but Mrs Drinkwater is looking to set up a pool team as well.
More televisions will soon be installed in the pub for sport lovers. ‘I feel passionately about this pub,’ Mrs Drinkwater added. ‘I fell in love with the place as soon as I stepped inside it.’
