TRADE union members held a minute’s silence to remember workers who have died or been injured at work.

Workers Memorial Day was marked in Portsmouth this weekend by 60 union members.

The event, which was organised by the Portsmouth Trade Union Council, took place on Sunday at Victoria Park.

Chris Price, from Unison, said: ‘The tragic effects of

deregulation can be seen in the factory collapse in Bangladesh and the fertiliser explosion in Texas.

‘Cuts to health and safety are putting workers and the public at risk.

‘You only have to look at the horse meat scandal to see the effect of cutting back on inspections.’
