SCORES of residents packed into a church to see its first-ever mistletoe and wine event.

The event on Saturday saw the Sarisbury Green United Reformed Church, in Bridge Road, decorated by the UR Welcome Club, which meets at the church on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

The group made floral arrangements, which were admired by visitors, including mayor and mayoress of Fareham Mike and Anne Ford, who also enjoyed the mince pies.

Organiser Iris Meatcher said: ‘It was fantastic. It was really lovely and some great comments were left in the visitors’ book saying how welcoming and friendly it was.’

A carols by candlelight service was also held on Saturday.

The displays will stay until January 3 and a service will be held on Christmas Day at 10.30am.
