A MODERN post office is set to open for an extra 72 hours.

The Palmyra Road branch in Gosport will open Sunday all day and Saturday afternoons.

Gary Trodd, post office services manager at the Southern Co-operative, said: ‘The Southern Co-operative is very supportive of the changes as it’s seen as a positive move forward for customers by making the Post Office’s services more conveniently available whenever our store is open.’

It comes as a revamped post office in Gosport’s High Street finally opened in new premises this month.

The Palmyra Road branch is housed in a Co-op and will closed at 5.30pm on March 18 for refurbishment.

The shop will stay open during this process.

Alternative branches during the closure include one in Whitworth Road and one in Village Road, Alverstoke.

People using the modernised branch will now be able to renew their car tax.

Adrian Skinner Post Office area manager said: “We know how important Post Office services are to residents in Gosport and we are confident this vibrant modern Post Office, at the heart of the community, will be popular.’

The refurbishment is part of a government scheme.
