HUNDREDS of morris men danced and played instruments across the city as they delighted members of the public who watched on.
The Victory Morris Men, based in Portsmouth, had invited their fellow dancers from the south to join in a series of performances on Saturday.
Around 250 of them performed in Guildhall Square, in various locations in the city centre and on the Hot Walls in Old Portsmouth.
Mark Taylor, bagman at the Victory Morris Men, said: ‘We were delighted – we thought the day went very well.
‘We were very pleased with the number of the public that turned out.
‘The public of Portsmouth appreciated the spectacle that was the day.’
Mr Taylor added the group is planning a bigger performance next year for its 40th anniversary. A day has not yet been set for the occasion.
