‘Motty’ to discuss his time behind the mic

LEGENDARY sports commentator John Motson is heading to the Guildhall to reflect on four decades in football.

Motson, who has been a member of the Match of the Day team for 40 years, is regarded by many as the voice of football.

His contributions to Match of the Day, Grandstand, Football Focus and Five Live have been regular and varied.

From 1979 to 2008 he was the BBC’s voice on major cup finals – FA Cup, European Championship and World Cup, including his record-breaking sixth World Cup Final in Berlin in 2006 and his 29th FA Cup Final in May 2008, an achievement not reached by any other commentator.

On April 4 he will be appearing at the Guildhall, Portsmouth, where he will be talking about his career which also includes over 30 football videos, four books and his autobiography, Motty – Forty Years in the Commentary Box, published in 2009.

Tickets cost £15.

For more details, or to book tickets go to portsmouthguildhall.org.uk or call (023) 9282 4355.
