AN MP has welcomed work by Southern Water to counter sewage flooding problems near homes.
Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery hopes that the work carried out at Riverside Mews in Wickham will solve the issue.
He said: ‘Previously, I called for no more home building in Wickham until this very unpleasant situation is sorted out.
‘It appears that since then Southern Water is taking the problem seriously and is investing to try and solve it.’
Southern Water and Hampshire County Council have investigated why the area has been hit by flooding and raw sewage running into the properties.
Problems identified include too much rainwater entering the sewage system and a lack of capacity to deal with foul waste.
Southern Water is now planning a pumping station refurbishment programme this year and next to help resolve the issue that has blighted the area for many years.
