THE winner of The Best Job in the World is on his way to beginning a dream six-month experience with his family.
Former Purbrook Park School pupil Rich Keam beat 600,000 hopefuls to become Taste Master of Western Australia.
The musician and film costume designer will enjoy the very best food and drink the state has to offer, and all he has to do is blog about his amazing experiences to earn the £70,000 salary.
Joining the 34-year-old are his fiance Chrissy and five-month-old son George.
He said: ‘I’m super excited, nervous, and a bit scared. It’s going to be awesome.
‘I’m a tiny bit gutted as I was supposed to be playing at Victorious Festival this weekend but obviously I can’t make it!
‘I’ll be spending the first part up north in Kimberly and Bungle Bungle, then Chrissy and George will join me in five weeks time.
‘It will be an incredible experience for all of us. When I was over there on the two week challenge she didn’t tell me how much she wanted me to win because the didn’t want to put too much pressure on me.’
Rich is the second person from the area to win one of Australia’s Best Jobs in the World.
In 2009 Ben Southall, from Petersfield, won a job as caretaker of the Hamilton Islands in the Great Barrier Reef.
Rich added: ‘I met him when I was out there.
‘He is a really nice chap. He did a great speech for the finalists and I found him really, really inspiring. I had a good chat with him afterwards about Petersfield.’
Rich will be based in Perth and travel round taking in places like Margaret River, famous for it’s wine.
