Musicians put on Off The Record fundraiser

THE music world is getting ready for a gig in aid of a young people’s counselling service.

Portsmouth City Council has proposed to cut Off The Record’s funding and increase the rent on its building, in Fratton.

A decision will be made next week but in the meantime musicians are holding an all day fundraising gig called Off the Strings, at The Rifle Club, Goldsmith Avenue, Southsea, tomorrow.

Organiser Joe Conway, who works for the charity, said: ‘We have so many young people come to us in desperate need of help which they just can’t get anywhere else. I’ve seen for myself the difference we make in people’s lives and it really is inspirational. It’s frightening to think what might happen to them if we were forced to close our doors.’

Among the acts are Lucifer’s Gold, Rejected Nation, Andy Foster, Eileen Kenny, Jake Bezzina, Joe Fraser, Kendra Stevens and Guide award-winner Leigh Mary Stokes.

The gig is at 4pm. To get tickets, at £6, call 07753 235216, or buy on the door.
