Long-distance walker Nat Severs might have hoped for an easier start to his 7,000 mile trek.

The 23-year-old had to take extra care as he tentatively made his way along an icy Southsea seafront as his epic walk around Britain's coast got underway yesterday morning.

But there was no way the snowy conditions were going to persuade Nat to postpone the start of his journey.

Nat said: 'It's not been too bad actually.

'It's a bit icy but I'm taking care so I've had no slips or falls yet.'

Nat was making his way to Fareham, where he stayed with a friend last night.

Today he will set off again and hopes to make it to Hamble by night fall.

Nat, of Gladys Avenue, Cowplain, hopes to raise money for the Stroke Association and Mammal Society.

His journey will take him along the south west coast of England, around the coast of Wales, along the north west coast of England and into Scotland before he makes his way back down the east coast of Britain.
