THE play rangers from Fareham Borough Council have been praised for a successful National Playday event.

It took place next to Fareham North West Community Centre and just under 200 children turned out.

Playday is traditionally celebrated on the first Wednesday in August and this year’s theme was focused on enabling children and young people to have the time, space and opportunity to play outdoors.

Councillor Connie Hockley, said: ‘I am delighted that so many people were able to come and celebrate the fun of National Playday.

‘I would also like to thank all the partner agencies and community groups that helped make the event such a great success.

‘Outdoor play is crucial for children’s health, wellbeing and happiness.’

The event provided free and fun play opportunities with a range of arts and crafts, including nail art, face-painting, traditional games and football skills.

And there was a surprise visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue.
