Reverend Tracey Ansell, minister of North End Baptist Church, talks about an unusual Christmas concert coming up

Joyful Noise Youth Choir is a group of local children aged between four and 12 years old who get together every Wednesday after school at the church to sing and enjoy music together.

Since September we have been preparing an exciting new nativity with a twist that aims to show the community that Jesus is relevant and exciting and a real cause for celebration.

Emily Warden, our worship and choir leader at NEBC, has written this production that tells the Christmas story through biblically accurate script combined with re-written modern ‘pop’ songs from The Supremes and Elton John, to Taylor Swift and One Direction.

Our hope is for the local community to be reminded of the true ‘reason for the season’, be able to relate to Jesus and the Christmas story in a way that they will find fun and exciting and that they will remember for years to come; and judging by the excitement and enthusiasm of the children (and adults) involved, that is exactly what we will achieve.

From Mary and Joseph singing Emeli Sande hits to breakdancing shepherds, we are confident that there will be something in this production that everyone will enjoy.

And the best bit about it is that it is completely free.

There will be two performances, one at 2pm on Saturday and another at 10.45am on Sunday.

A warm welcome awaits you, along with a fun production followed by refreshments. Come and see the Christmas story as you have never seen it before.

We have also organised a sheep trail around the local community. One of our shepherds has lost eight of his sheep and they can be found in local schools, the children’s centre, the Lord Chichester Pub and shops.

Children are invited to pick up a sheep trail leaflet from us at the church, or at the schools and find the names of the missing sheep.

Hand your completed form, along with the picture coloured in at the Community Carols service on Sunday December 20 at 6.30pm to enter the prize competition. Portsmouth Brass Band will be leading the carols.
